Week 6 – End of year week!
Here are your activities for the end of year week. We have all enjoyed teaching each and every one of you. You have all worked so very hard, both in school and with your home learning, and we really do miss you. We hope you enjoy this week and we can’t wait to see your work on Seesaw.
You can complete the activities in any order, but we would suggest completing the five-minute speed task first so that we can gather all your times and let you know who is the winner on Friday!
We have also included the White Rose maths sheets for this week, an English task, a Science task using an egg box and a music activity. Feel free to pick and choose which activities you do.

We hope that you enjoyed have enjoyed the Alien topic. We have certainly enjoyed seeing your aliens and your maps of Zargon 10, as well, as your fantastic writing.
There are a couple of final writing tasks to complete if you wish. These will use all of the brilliant skills you have learned whilst completing the tasks.
If you decide to do any of them, we would love to see them on Seesaw.
Science
We hope you all enjoyed completing your foil tasks. Although it probably wasn’t the best week for trying to create a solar oven! If you didn’t get chance to do it, perhaps you could try again in the holidays.
This week’s science is also a practical activity which will once again involve you using “Working Scientifically” skills. It requires one main piece of equipment. This week it is an egg box.
We will include the whole sheet on the website so you can choose which of the activities you would like to do. Try to take photos to put on Seesaw and note down any thing you noticed or any changes that you made
Music
Have a look at the BBC Ten Pieces Website.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/ten-pieces/ten-pieces-at-home/zjy3382
This week’s activity is quite a topical one and tells the story of an African boy who arrived in Paris with his family from Guadeloupe in the Caribbean in the 1700’s. His name was Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint Georges. Listen to the piece of music that he eventually composed. If you want to, you can create a news bulletin about his life.
Seesaw
If you can, check on Seesaw because there may be additional activities on there to complete.
Danny Dread – The story is certainly getting exciting! The story will continue to be shared on Seesaw so that you don’t miss the end.
Art: Colour walk – video to support this activity is available on seesaw
Today we’re going to go on a colour walk. What is a colour walk?
A colour walk is a walk where you try to look for all the colours of the rainbow. You might think of it like a treasure hunt, where the treasure is colour! This could be outside, along your street, or even around your home.
WHAT TO DO
Look for things in every colour of the rainbow, one by one. You can photograph or draw each thing you find, write them down, or just look.
It’s up to you how many things you want to find in the same colour. At different times of year this activity might look quite different!
If you’re playing at home, you could collect a few things of each colour and arrange them.
AFTER YOUR WALK
When you finish your walk you could:
- draw a map of your walk and add colourful drawings of some of things you saw
- make a collage of pictures you took
- make colourful drawings of some of the things you saw together
- Look back at your photographs and see if you notice anything new about the things you saw
More ideas for your colour walk are available here:

English: Favourite memory of the year
What has been your favourite memory of the school year? Write down a few ideas and try to pick one that stands out the most. Then, using the salt dough recipe, you can make a dough and you can cut out shapes, numbers or letters using biscuit cutters, or make any kind of model you can think of to represent your school year, using your favourite memory to inspire you. You can even stamp out a word in the dough to remind you of a memory from that year. E.g. fun, happy, laughter, friends…
Five-minute speed task!
There are 10 questions on the activity sheet below. You have to find three answers for each of the questions. Whilst you are doing this, ask an adult to time how long it takes you. When you have completed the questions, send them into us on Seesaw with the time you did it in! On Friday, we will announce the quickest form each class. So, get your thinking hats on and a pen at the ready…
Design Technology: Design a Roller Coaster! – video to support this activity is available on seesaw
Your task is to be the designer of a new and exciting roller-coaster!
First, to gather ideas, you could watch some videos of rollercoasters and look at photographs of them. There are some examples on Seesaw for you.
Watch the PowerPoint below that outlines the task for you.
Then work your way through the activity pack. You will need to think about what materials you have in your home that you could use to build with, and gather what you have. Lay it out on the table and so you can have a good look at what is there. Next, you can select suitable materials from what you have gathered and test the materials using the sheet to help guide you.
Design your rollercoaster by drawing it out first, then once you are happy with your design, you can get building! Have fun and we can’t wait to see your videos and photos on Seesaw of your rocking rollercoasters!
Maths: Theme Park money problems and addition and subtraction problems.
Can you work out the answer to these problems? Remember to always show your working out and double check your answers at the end. There is a video up on Seesaw to help you with this.
Writing flash backs – comic book style!
The story you will write needs to begin with one of these images…
How did they end up there?
What events led to this happening?
Use your wonderful imagination to create a mysterious adventure!
We have given you a comic book outline if you want to make your story into a comic book adventure.
Ten-word challenge!
There is a Wizard in My Potting Shed
Imagine you discover this ‘shed’ at the bottom of your garden. What is inside? I can imagine it’s magical inside, much bigger than it seems on the outside. Perhaps lit by candles, strange instruments on the tables, cobwebbed and dusty.
Behind you the door closes gently and you spy this man sat in emerald green robes, peering at you over his glasses, the candles flicker and die out. It’s pitch black and he whispers….
You have 10 words only. No more and no less. What does the Wizard say to you? Make it mysterious. This is the opening scene to a story. Perhaps something like “Come, follow me.. Don’t make a sound, it is upstairs!”
Can you twist it and make the 10 words the final part of the story?
Friendship Bracelets
Use the instructions below to make a friendship bracelet. You could then write a letter to your friend and send the bracelet with it in the post to them.
